Dolly and Charlotte at a Baptist church wedding under a blue sky at Arkatype Farms

It was a beautiful day at Arkatype Farms. A big Baptist church wedding was being held under the blue sky, and everyone was smiling. Dolly was there to help, looking lovely in her white lace top and brown vest. Her blonde braid was neat, and a crown of colorful flowers sat upon her head. Charlotte, black-and-white and bright-eyed, sat in the grass at her side and kept the aisle honest.

Dolly wasn’t alone in her work. She was accompanied by her best friend, a goat named Bramble. Bramble wore a matching flower crown and carried special leather panniers. Inside the pouches were cold glass bottles of lemonade and sparkling cider for the thirsty guests. Charlotte walked the crowd with them, a third shadow in the clover.

Moonrise over the wedding fields as Dolly, Bramble, and Charlotte serve drinks

As the celebration continued, the sun began to dip behind the hills. The party moved to the rolling grass fields as a giant, late summer moon rose high into the starry sky. Dolly and Bramble walked through the crowd, making sure everyone had a refreshing drink to toast the happy couple. Charlotte kept to the wildflowers and the edge of every toast.

Dolly discovers her tip bag is missing while Charlotte looks up at her under the moon

When the music started to fade and the guests began to say their goodbyes, Dolly reached for her special cloth bag. It was the bag where she kept all the tips the kind guests had given her throughout the day. But when she reached down, her heart sank. The bag was gone! Charlotte pressed close and would not look away.

Mr. Jake the older detective tips his hat to Dolly, Bramble, and Charlotte

“Oh dear, Bramble! I’ve lost my tip bag!” Dolly cried softly. A kind man heard her and stepped forward. It was Mr. Jake, an older detective who was a guest at the wedding. He adjusted his hat and pulled a shiny magnifying glass from his pocket. “Don’t you worry, Dolly. We shall find it,” he said with a confident smile.

Mr. Elwood and Mr. Jake inspect the farm by moonlight with Dolly, Bramble, and Charlotte

Mr. Jake called over his partner, a younger man named Mr. Elwood. Mr. Elwood wore a sharp grey suit and held a wooden clipboard with a pen ready. “We need to track your movements, Dolly,” Mr. Elwood said. The two detectives began to inspect the farm, looking for clues in the silver moonlight.

Wedding guests search benches and gardens while Mr. Jake directs and Charlotte sniffs the grass

Soon, other wedding guests joined the search. Everyone wanted to help Dolly. Mr. Jake directed the group, checking off areas on his clipboard as they searched. They looked under the wooden benches and near the flower gardens, but the little bag was nowhere to be found. Charlotte worked the flowerbeds with her nose to the earth.

Mr. Jake crawls through tall grass with a magnifying glass while Charlotte sniffs beside him

Mr. Jake crawled slowly through the tall grass, his magnifying glass catching the moonlight. He looked for footprints or a trail of coins, but the grass was thick and soft. “It’s a real mystery,” Mr. Jake muttered, scratching his chin. Charlotte flattened herself in the same grass and sniffed what the glass could not see.

Dolly kneels beside Bramble and lifts the tip bag from the pannier buckle as Charlotte watches

Dolly sighed and leaned against Bramble. Bramble let out a soft bleat and nudged Dolly’s hand with his nose. As Dolly reached out to pet the goat’s soft ears, she noticed something dangling near the back of the leather pannier. Something that shouldn't have been there. Charlotte sat close enough to see it too.

Dolly hugs Bramble as Charlotte leaps and Mr. Elwood and Mr. Jake cheer under the moon

“Look!” Dolly laughed, her face lighting up with joy. The tip bag hadn't fallen in the grass at all! It had simply hooked onto the buckle of Bramble’s leather pannier while they were walking. Mr. Elwood and Mr. Jake cheered, Charlotte leapt in the lantern light, and Dolly gave Bramble a big hug. The mystery was solved, and the moonlit night at Arkatype Farms ended with a smile.
