This is the caboose window. The newspaper, the farm gate, and the Goat Maiden each look at the same hill from a different porch.
Arkatype Farms sits in Arktopia County, in the Ozarks, and behaves like a storybook that learned how to keep livestock. Dolly — a human girl in her early twenties — and Charlotte — a black-and-white border collie — are time travelers. They duck into wormholes, ride them backward and forward, and come home with whoever was left standing in the weather.
The farm is being readied as a refuge. The caboose is how the refuge is stocked: not with wonders from the old tales, but with ordinary animals who will need a home when the world gets loud. That work is written here as lantern sheets and run reports, the way goat news is written next door as bleat sheets.
